he American Arts and Crafts
movement blossomed at the turn of the century on the tree lined streets of peaceful villages in
Upstate New York. The movement was a personal and architectural revolt against the ornateness of
the Victorian style.
his movement sparked a period
of design characterized by simplicity, honesty, and integrity. There was significant emphasis
placed on the home and particularly on the quality and individuality of the items placed in it.
Here in Fayetteville, NY, Leopold and John George Stickley created Arts and Crafts furniture
using innovative construction techniques which have endured as hallmarks of the movement. Their
brother, Gustav, ran the Craftsman factory where he created his simple, honest designs which are
highly prized by collectors today.
e dedicate this Inn, Lodge,
and Restaurant to these Craftsman ideals. Look around-the designs that inspired the building,
the chairs and tables, the lighting and pictures, started here nearly 100 years ago.
he Craftsman Inn was opened
in May of 1995 with the original 70 rooms. The Craftsman House was then added in May of 1997 to
compliment the Inn. In May of 2000, the Conference Center and 21 lodge suites were opened.
